Fifth Grade Math

Fifth graders can expect to master multiplication to any place value and division of up to a four digit dividend and two digit divisor. They will use the order of operations to solve multi-step expressions, and express multi-digit expressions in words. We will work to understand, represent, read, write, compare, and round decimals to the thousandths place. Students will also use all operations with decimals to the hundredths place. Students will learnt o add and subtract decimals with unlike denominators and multiply fractions by fractions and whole numbers. They will also divide unit fractions (ex: ¼) by whole numbers and vice versa.

In measurement and data, students will learn to find the volume of an object using unit cubes and the traditional formula. In geometry, students will classify two-dimensional shapes into multiple categories and subcategories. They will also use the first quadrant of the coordinate plane to find points and ordered pairs.
